HIT THE GROUND RUNNING
When I was a little girl, I used to stand in the yard and twirl around
Until I couldn’t stand then I’d fall back on the ground
And I’d lie in the breeze staring up at the trees and I’d set my dreams afly
With a whole lot of nothing going on for miles, and no cap on the sky

When I was 18 I married a boy from a neighboring town and I settled down
Stuffed my dreams in the back of a drawer with some socks and pairs of underwear
But your best-laid plans can change with time and so I emptied out that drawer of mine
Not much to say, but I couldn’t stay and I left that boy behind
And I remember now how it used to feel
When the flame went out it took a long time to heal

If you can make it through the impact of the landing, you’ll discover

These days, I spend my time keeping the planets and my thoughts aligned
Remembering the girl formerly known as me, as me
Sometimes at night when the world is dark I sneak outside into the back yard
And I dance through the grass ‘cause I know at last my dreams are free
And I remember now how it’s supposed to feel
It feels like spinning ‘round, and around and around till you leave the ground
